About Big Coat?

A small British app with one job: decide what to wear.

Why it exists

It started as two emails a day, written for one person who leaves the house before the forecast makes any sense. Every weather app on her phone could tell her it was going to be nine degrees with a 40% chance of rain. None of them could tell her whether that meant the big coat.

So the emails did. One at six in the evening to plan tomorrow, while there was still time to dry something or find the other glove. One at six the next morning to confirm it or change it. After a few months of that being the most useful thing on her phone, it became an app.

What we actually built

The forecast comes hour by hour for one postcode, not one city. It is read against the hours you are actually outside, which you set yourself: the school gate, the walk back, the pickup. Then a language model turns those numbers into a few sentences a human would write, with a clothing decision at the front.

Generic categories only. Warm coat, rain coat, jumper, ankle boots. No brands, no shopping links, and nothing to buy inside the brief. If we ever changed that, it would stop being the thing that made it useful.

How it makes money

Subscriptions, and only subscriptions. £2.99 a month or £19.99 a year, with a 14-day free trial. The morning brief stays free forever with no card.

There are no adverts, no trackers, no analytics profile, and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing. That is a business model choice, not a feature we are saving for later: an app funded by attention would want you opening it all day, and this one is built to be read once and closed.
